Positions: Marine Highway

I will support the Marine Highway and the people who work on it. The people of Southeast want an expanded ferry system that can transport them at convenient hours on a daily basis. Fishermen and processors must be able to rely on the ability to ship fresh product to expanding markets.

The Marine Highway is Southeast Alaska's only highway. It's not subsidized any more than any highway out of Anchorage or Fairbanks. I will work to make sure we get our fair share of transportation dollars to maintain and expand service to Ketchikan, Sitka, Petersburg, Wrangell, Hyder and other Southeast communities.

As the state continues formulating its Southeast Alaska Transportation Plan, I insist on a continued dialogue between the communities affected by the plan and the Department of Transportation. It is vital that state officials listen directly to the people in each community.

A good transportation system will create jobs by drawing business to Southeast. It makes sense to run an efficient and modern Marine Highway.

I am committed to making this happen.

VOTE GREG MIDDAG FOR STATE SENATE.
